Carly Simon finally says who “You’re So Vain” is written about, confirms what we knew all along

During the 1970s, numerous influential musicians in rock and roll emerged. One of them was Carly Simon,

who penned the timeless hit “You’re So Vain. ”Simon was the third daughter of Richard Simon, co-founder of Simon &

Schuster, born on June 25, 1945, in New York City. Her parents wanted a son named Carl, but when she was born, they named her Carly.

Version 1: Simon and her family resided in their home in Greenwich Village, New York.

However, Simon preferred to spend the majority of her time at the estate in Stamford, Connecticut.

It was during this period that she developed a close bond with baseball player Jackie Robinson, who was a dear friend of her family.

Jackie would often bring her along to his games, and the fans even saw her as the team’s mascot. In her book Boys in the Trees,

published in 2015, Simon mentioned that Jackie tried to teach her how to bat left-handed, but it didn’t stick.

She also described how he had a cute expression on his face, like he was pondering his words before speaking .

Simon showed interest in music and soon after, she and her sister Lucy started performing together in Greenwich Village after they learned how to play the guitar by themselves.

The duo was named The Simon Sisters and released three albums. After beginning her solo career, Carly achieved great success with her songs topping the charts. One of her popular singles, “That’s the Way I’ve Always Heard It Should Be,” from her debut album “Carly Simon”

released in 1971, reached No. 10 on the Billboard Hot 100 list. She is also known for her famous songs like “Anticipation,”

“Haven’t Got Time for the Pain,” “You Belong to Me,” “Coming Around Again,” “Mockingbird,” “Nobody Does It Better” from the James Bond film

“The Spy Who Loved Me,” and “Jesse. ”According to her, she wrote the hit Anticipation in 15 minutes while waiting for Cat Stevens at her place.

Simon, a newcomer in the music industry, achieved great success by releasing two highly acclaimed albums in a remarkably short period.

As a result, he was honored with a Grammy Award for Best New Artist of the Year and received a nomination in the “Best Pop Female Vocalist” category.

The third track from her third album made a significant impact in music history. “You are so Vain” is now at No.

92 on Billboard’s Greatest Songs of All-Time list and was ranked No. 216 in RIAA’s Songs of the Century. In August 2014,

the UK’s Official Charts Company named it the top song of the 1970s.The identity of the person the famous song was written about is still unknown.

While Simon was recording at Trident Studios in London, England, Paul McCartney and Mick Jagger were there too.

Jagger sang the chorus, but wasn’t given credit. Surprisingly, the song was actually written for the Rolling Stones front-man,

not Warren Bitty as many believed. Simon wrote in her memoir that Jagger visited the studio the moment he learned she was there.

It happened just after midnight. Mick and I were standing close to each other – we had the same height, same coloring, same lips.

I felt like I was trying to stay within a gentle pink force that was slowly releasing its hold on me. The closeness excited me,

bringing back memories of all the times I had pretended to be him in front of my mirror.

Simon mentioned that her song was also inspired by two other individuals, however, she declined to disclose their identities,

stating that they are aware of the connection. She expressed uncertainty about revealing the details in a casual conversation,

admitting that she never expected to acknowledge the involvement of more than one person. Simon had been married twice. Her first husband,

James Taylor, was introduced in her memoir. In the book, she described their first encounter.

James was wearing dark red corduroys with a long-sleeved Henley shirt. He had a cigarette in his hand and his hair was shiny yet messy,

falling evenly on both sides of his head. He also had a scruffy mustache, which was trendy in the 1970s. Despite his relaxed appearance,

there was something about him that made it clear he was the focal point of attention. Whether he was lying on the floor or standing,

he exuded a sense of importance. They had two children together but divorced in 1983, after 11 years of marriage. In 1987, Simon married writer James Hart but divorced him in 2007.
